Locsin is the only Filipino nominated in the acting category and will be competing against actresses from France, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. She portrayed the role of a Lyka Raymundo, an aspiring fashion designer who later had to confront her own destiny as a she-wolf. She is the second Filipino actress to receive such nomination after Tessie Tomas who played the role of Cory Aquino in HBO's "A Dangerous Life" in the 1980s.
On the other hand, ABS-CBN's "Kahit Isang Saglit" and GMA's "Magdusa Ka" will be competing in the Best Telenovela category against programs from India and France.
"Kahit Isang Saglit" is a landmark TV project aired both in the Philippines and Malaysia. The drama series was shot in both countries, marking ABS-CBN's first collaboration with a Malaysian production group (Double Vision). On the other hand, "Magdusa Ka" was a TV remake of the hit drama movie of the same title starring Dina Bonnevie in the 1980s.
ABS-CBN made history in 2007 when its late night news program "Bandila" earned an International Emmy nomination, beating some 800 entries worldwide in the News and Current Affairs categories. It was the first Philippine newscast nominated in the Internal Emmys.
Winners will be revealed during the Gala Night on November 23, 2009 at Hilton Hotel, New York.
